In addition to outsourcing to other group factories and foundries (semiconductor contract manufacturing companies), production facilities at the company's main Naka factory, which was damaged in the Great East Japan Earthquake, were able to be started up earlier than planned.
President Yasushi Akao, who held a press conference at the Naka factory, explained, "Compared to the May plan, we can increase the amount of products that can be produced at Naka by about 20%, so we have set remove background image a target of returning to pre-earthquake (supply) levels by the end of September." When production returns to pre-earthquake levels at the end of September, the Naka factory's production volume will be 35%, while other factories and the foundry will account for 65%.
The production line which uses 200mm diameter silicon wafers to produce automotive microcontrollers and other components resumed production on the 1st of this month, followed by the 300mm line which mainly produces system LSIs on the 6th. Regarding when production at the Naka Factory itself will return to pre-earthquake levels, President Akao said, "Our top priority is to determine how to optimally allocate production, including by outsourcing production, while assessing demand in the first half of the year and moves, mainly in the automotive industry, to make up for the drop in production in the first half heading into the second half. I will explain this when we put together our business plan for fiscal 2011 (in July)."
